My commitment to therapy and myself

All clients begin with an assessment session to ascertain the nature of the problem and to discuss which type of therapy will be suitable. Therapy contracts typically last between 4 and 24 weekly sessions depending on the problem. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Any further therapy that may be necessary is usually discussed following a period of time away from the therapist to allow changes to settle and a new perspective to develop.

There are no guaranteed outcomes or 'cures' in psychotherapy and counselling, no 'magic wands'.

Talking about problems to someone who cares and listens has been shown to have a beneficial effect.

Dialogue in therapy should lead to insight, new learning and new perspectives. These can lead to appropriate changes in thinking, feeling and behaviour that you may wish to make.

It takes patience, commitment and regular attendance to get the most out of psychological help.

It is important to reflect on the following questions:

  • Can I make the commitment?
  • Is this the right time?
  • Am I motivated?Top of the page
